[English]

This study develops a typology of climate change vulnerability among smallholder farmers and derives targeted policy implications. The statistical population consisted of pistachio farmers in Yazd Province, and a sample size of 314 farmers was determined using Cochran’s formula and selected through stratified random sampling. Data were collected using a questionnaire whose validity and reliability were confirmed. The data were analyzed using principal component analysis to identify the key dimensions of vulnerability and cluster analysis to classify farmers based on their vulnerability patterns. The results of the principal component analysis identified a set of environmental and socioeconomic factors, including climatic stresses, weather-related hazards, biotic stresses, Constraints on resources, inputs, and agricultural production, human capital, financial resources, social capital, and access to infrastructure and services. The cluster analysis revealed three distinct vulnerability clusters among the farmers. The first cluster accounted for 32.6% of the sample and was characterized by high adaptive capacity and low exposure, representing a low-vulnerability pattern. The second cluster, comprising 42.0% of the sample, was the largest group and was characterized by high vulnerability and low adaptive capacity. The third cluster accounted for 25.4% of the sample and represented an intermediate level of vulnerability and adaptive capacity. Overall, the findings demonstrate considerable heterogeneity in vulnerability patterns among smallholder pistachio farmers in Yazd Province and highlight the need to account for differences among farmer groups when designing policies and interventions aimed at reducing vulnerability and strengthening adaptive capacity to climate change.
